Anti Muslim Film: Blasphemy or B.S.?

Okay, I just can’t stay quiet any longer. This thing is starting to get on my nerves. Apparently, some wannabe whatever you want to call him decides to put out an anti-Muslim film, and now there is unrest in many parts of the middle-east. Many of you may not know that I am from those parts out East, and all too familiar with the rage that is incited when these kinds of things happen.

I still remember growing up and hearing about the bounty that was put on Salman Rushdie’s head for his alleged Islam bashing in his book. I never read the book, so I can’t say for sure if there was any bashing going on, but I do remember questioning the craziness that ensued from it.

I taught my kids, and continue to teach my kids, to stay out of trouble. I try to instill a positive and strong foundation of love for themselves and what they stand for. If a bully calls them ugly, or says they are mean, fat, or whatever horrible things kids say, my children know for sure that “If a person says something about you, it doesn’t mean it is true.” Plain and simple. As they get older, they will eventually grow up and realize that their reality is what they create for themselves, and it is not dictated by others’ thoughts or words! To give a bully attention, is the absolute worst thing one can do. Now if the bully actually attacks a child, well, we handle that in a much different manner, however, that is not the issue at hand here, now is it?

As a Muslim American, I am horrified to see how this stupid little trailer of a film caused so many people to have such outrage. I understand that it was intentionally mean and hurtful, and possibly blasphemous, but come on people! Let the crime fit the punishment! There is no reason for anyone to get so enraged at this that they take others’ lives and destroy their own countries. They are essentially giving this guy everything he ever wanted and more. They are giving more hate, and destroying their own lives. Many offensive films have surfaced.  To give them any type of attention is unnecessary and only giving them fuel.

Interestingly enough, according to CNN, the guy who wrote this film, “The Innocence of Muslims,” has been in trouble with the law a number of times, has at least 4 alias names, and was convicted of manufacturing Methamphetamine. Are we really gonna let a Meth dealer cause us to get all crazy? Is this what it has come to? The nut who wrote this film tried to incite hate intentionally. Our troops are at risk, and there is more hatred for the West now, it seems, than when we invaded Iraq! I believe the man who produced this (I won’t say his name because he has too many…) knew full well that he was spreading hate. I only wish the people who were affected by what he filmed would rise above, not against, what he wrote.

The film itself was as cheesy as cheese can be, horrible acting, horrible everything. To be honest, it really wasn’t even a film at all. My kids make more interesting films on their iMovie app on my ipad. That’s the 100% truth. So in closing, my message goes out to all of you, whether you are Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Zoroastrian, Buddhist, Atheist… We really need to have full respect and love for one another. There is no purpose in fighting over religion and beliefs, fighting over beliefs is in itself blasphemous and I don’t want to be a part of it.

My final message goes to all those Muslims who are rioting and attacking and destroying all that is around them. I am really tired of having to apologize for your bad behavior. It is hard enough to try to defend my religion from the daily attacks, the last thing I need is to have to defend your attacks. If someone hurts you, physically, then defend yourself. But if someone hurts your feelings or your beliefs, then don’t allow yourself to get hurt! Cease with the destruction of your land and attacks on innocent people and politely protest if that is what you need to do. But on behalf of myself and other fellow Muslims out in the world, the last thing we need attached to our religion is more violence and outrage. Stop acting like a bunch of adolescents, and starting following your beliefs of peace, love and prosperity.

That,in my humble opinion, is the best revenge.

So . . . imagine now if they made a Broadway musical about the Koran . . .
