This past weekend, my friend and I ran a 10K race (6.2 miles) on Governors Island, a 172-acre island in New York Harbor. It was only the second time I’d been to there, despite its proximity to both Manhattan and Brooklyn. What was once a military base for the U.S. Army and Coast Guard is now a green, beautiful, peaceful, car-free island with a lot of arts, history and fitness events planned for the summer. Below are some health and fitness events for you to do with the whole family.

Catch the Manhattan ferry at 10 am or 2:15 pm, meet your guide and then return on the 12 pm or 4 pm ferries.
Come Out & Play Field Day and Family Day: Saturday, July 13, 11 am to 5 pm
Field Day and Family Day have games old and new at the Parade Ground for interactive play the whole family can enjoy. Field Day and Family Day is part of the River to River Festival. For more information: Come Out & Play.
