Camelback Resort- Poconos Fun Indoors and Out!

WOW- There’s just a TON to do at Camelback Resort. Sometimes I don’t even know how to start my posts but I’ll say if you like OUTDOOR activities like skiing, snow boarding, snow tubing and zip-lining then want to chill out warm up in an 84 degree indoor water park with tons of slides, wave pool, swim up bar and of course HOT TUB, then Camelback Resort is calling your name.

And I didn’t even mention the one of a kind outdoor mountain coaster, the delicious food or the kids activities yet.

My kids and I arrived by noon, checked in and despite a light misty rain, we headed outside to the mountain coaster. They absolutely loved this, ranking it as a top favorite on their trip. Great views of the skiers and a really unique experience. This coaster is definitely a must-do!  Despite the area having now “real”snow yet, Camelback made their own and it was good enough for a great wintery time for us!

After that, we headed over to do some snow tubing. While this mama bear drank hot chocolate and ate hot pretzels, the kids tubed for about an hour and a half( You get 3 hours) and had a blast.

Camelback offers skiing and snowboarding on 2 dozen plus trails. They rent or sell equipment too and they have lessons which we will definitely have to do next time.

The other BIG ATTRACTION here is the new AQUATOPIA indoor water park at Camelback Lodge, which opened in early 2015. Right now it’s the biggest indoor water park in the Northeast!  We’ve been to quite a few indoor water parks now and can say that yeah, this one IS big and has plenty to do. My kids are now 9, 13 and 15 and we found it a perfect park for their ages. Some of the other water parks catered more to the under 9’s, but Aquatopia still had a lovely little children’s area that looked like a mini-Antarctica and a big area to climb with dumping buckets, water shooters and slides of all sizes.

There’s a nice wave pool and my FAVORITE attraction- the one of a kind GORGEOUS unique lazy river! My little guy went around at least 10 times and me probably 7 or 8 times. Hi Mr. Lifeguard, just me again.  It was relaxing, pretty and had such a great feel to it. Wins my award for BEST lazy river. EVER.

As for slides, there were 13 in total including the longest indoor uphill water coaster in the U.S. My kids really loved The Himalayan,  a head first mat slide, different than the typical tube rides and body slides. Their other fave? Paradise Plunge, the 60 foot vertical-you’ll-never-get-me-on-free-fall ride! Can’t count the number of times they did that one.

Other things: Swim up bar for adults, large hot tub (pool) and the very fun- to- do -and -to -watch flow rider. My oldest is pretty good at this and the attendants are really helpful encouraging them to try some new moves and tricks.

What else did I LOVE about AQUATOPIA?  Ahhhh, the day, the sun shone in and it felt quite tropical and almost like you were outside…once it started getting dark out though, the lighting changed and reds, greens and purples everywhere gave an extra COOL-GLOW factor to the place. The FlowRider was GREEN when we were there- very cool if you ask me.

Once you dry off, there’s a lot for families to do inside.

A nice spacious arcade dominates downstairs right outside the water park. There’s also a paint your own pottery (I found this to be a bit pricey, but hey, if you’re on vacation, it’s your money…..)

On the main level there’s indoor mini golf, a small ropes course, rock wall and Lazer tag all in one area which can keep kids busy for a few hours of dry time (and some comfy couches parents can relax on with views of the water park or around the fire)

Did we love the buffet or what? Dinner had an incredible amount of choices( as did breakfast). Everything from shrimp to prime rib, huge fruit and salad bars, a great custom noodle bowl station and lots more. The dessert area was incredible too….I gained 5 pounds on the spot. Kids had 3 or 4 plates each and we rolled right out of there to our room. Speaking of, the room was very nice…we had a regular double queen room which I found clean and spacious enough. Great view of the slopes from our room!

If you don’t want to spring for the buffet, there are plenty of other restaurants on site and a few smaller take out places where you can grab a coffee and muffin, a sandwich or wrap, pizza, etc and rooms have microwaves and refrigerators.

Most of Long Island can reach Camelback at a 2-3 hour drive and for much of the tri-state, it’s super convenient and an easy drive on Rt. 80 near the Delaware Water Gap. We plan on going back in the summer to enjoy the local area and to check out their large OUTDOOR water park- Camelbeach- and all the other outdoor activities like the rope course and the mountain coaster again. The Poconos pretty much rocks all seasons for family fun.

I really can’t say enough about Camelback Resort and Lodge, mainly because it was lovely, large, clean, had tons to do and was a short convenient drive from Suffolk County. Some hotels just offer a water park and arcade but with the outdoor activities here- the skiing, tubing and boarding, plus the mountain coaster, it’s just so much more!
