Take a Long Island Day Trip to Adventureland!

Hey Long Island…sometimes we forget what’s right in our backyards right? Plus when you need a break from the beach, there’s no place like Adventureland for a day, or night of fun!  Recently I took my kids there again, as we try to do every summer. We showed up at 4 p.m. which is the perfect time to go on a weekday in summer as the last camp bus is pulling out right about then. I think Adventureland is perfect for tweens- ages 8-12, but of course it’s good for the little ones too, since it has what we dub “little kid land”.  As the afternoon turned into evening  I saw quite a few teenagers walking around in pairs or small groups too.  It’s really a nice local place for all ages.

Despite no huge roller coasters, the new Turbulence -which debuted in 2015- is a really FUN spinning coaster that is very popular! For more adrenaline rush, there’s the Frisbee (I remember this being popular from my own teenage years!) as well as the pirate ship, the Musik Express and a great log flume ride! Luckily the day we chose to go (a Monday) was quiet and the kids got to go on the rides each many times. The Lady Bug coaster is a popular option for the smaller kids who like coasters. Bumper cars were a big hit for my 9 year old this year!

Pack a bathing suit and a towel if you go in summer because kids really love Crocodile Run and they WILL get wet (despite an option to spin out of the water). My son was soaked head to toe. He loved it!  No matter where you park, it’s a short walk to your car, so a change of clothes is always a good option. Or just bring a tote bag. Little Dipper is a tiny and fun log flume ride where the little ones may get slightly wet too.

By day Adventureland felt like a theme park to me. At night, it felt more like a fun carnival…I’m not sure why, but if you haven’t been there in a while, take an afternoon or evening to check it out! I found the park to be clean and had plenty of shade on a sunny hot day. Also, they had a few charging station areas so bring cords if you need to. Classic midway games for $1-$5 each are around the park. There’s also bungy jump pad ($5 for 2 minutes), face painting ($) and an indoor arcade. Many options to keep your kids busy and happy!

For food, Adventureland has both indoor and outdoor choices. We had pizza and a grilled chicken sandwich outside this time at the brand new 3 Generations food court which also has a really nice sweet shop and gift shop.

DID YOU KNOW?

Adventureland also established a non-profit organization called The Helping Hands Foundation. It’s aimed to help our local community through goods drive, scholarships and providing visibility for local nonprofits. Since being founded, they’ve donated thousands of pounds of food and hundreds of toys and school supplies to organizations like Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, Hope for Youth and the Town of Babylon. This past June 2016 they awarded over $6000 in scholarships to Long Island High School seniors.

Birthday parties at Adventureland are pretty popular too! If you’re local, it’s a nice idea for tweens. If we lived closer, we’d get a season pass too.

In October, Adventureland will have PUMPKIN PARK, with vendors and fall fun, and they are open weekends and holidays right up until October 3oth so it would make a great fall fun day trip idea.  Here’s their calendar. You can give them a like on Facebook here to keep up with park happenings.

Buy the pay- one- price wrist band instead of individual tickets to get the best bang for your buck, wear sneakers or closed toe shoes, bring a change of clothes if kids plan to get wet and have fun on a stay-cation /day-cation right here on the island!

Visit their EVENTS page for all upcoming events!

Thanks to Adventureland for hosting my family so I could blog about it for my readers. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
